Lifting the drive shaft.
Bordering the friary complex to the south, archaeologists discovered a long-forgotten stream, which had finally dried up and been filled over in the 18th century. Perfectly preserved in the waterlogged sediments were the remains of a 13th century corn mill, consisting of the wooden foundations and an over 6 metre long water-wheel drife shaft. After comparison of these remains with historical sources, we were able to attempt a computergenerated reconstruction of this technical monument, which again will be seen soon in this Internet exhibition.
